music is something that is relatively new to me but came from a need to
express what I was trying to say to God. As I walk around our farm, as
I drive my kids from place to place, as I sit at the piano and just
talk to Him, words and melodies make their way out. I’m inspired by
images from nature, from its immensity to its intricacy. All speak to
me of a creator who is awesome and gracious. The more I know, the more
I realize I don’t know and just how much is beyond me. I’m
so privileged to serve with a phenomenal team of volunteer musicians at
Sequoia. Their servant hearts and willingness to share their musical
gifts so diligently are something I never want to take for granted.
Together we’ve made the songs that I have written in my little house
become accessible to our local church and beyond. The songs on The View From Here reflect the story of my own journey over the last ten years. The oldest song was written in 1999; the newest (the aptly-named ‘Something New’) was a collaborative effort written during the CD’s production. The songs are snapshots of my life, expressing joy, confusion, pain, the desire to change for the better, and hope. It’s my prayer that God would be blessed by these offerings and that people would find something in these songs that speaks to their hearts.
If you've talked to me for any length of time, you'll notice that my mind tends to meander. It likes the scenic route. I'm not a direct, decisive person - that's best left to my amazing hubby. But in the wandering, my mind finds lovely little places to go and beautiful, oft-missed scenery. My blog holds lots of these observations on life, music, our farm, family, food, and anything else that makes my mind say, "wait! stop! there's something interesting over there!" as it scampers off. Stop by, read for a bit, and drop me a line - I love to hear from others along their journey. |
